What this route actually is
Law in Pakistan is a regulated profession with a gate after the degree, not just before it. The five-year LLB is the qualification; enrolment with a Bar Council is what allows you to practise.
LAT is unusual among Pakistani entry tests in being pass-or-fail as well as weighted — below the qualifying mark you are not considered at all, whatever your intermediate results.
What the work involves
- Litigation begins with years of junior work: drafting, filing, and attending court behind a senior.
- Corporate and in-house practice is document work — contracts, compliance, due diligence — with far less court time.
- Both are reading-heavy, and the writing standard expected is higher than most students anticipate.
Worth knowing before you commit
- Early years in litigation are poorly paid relative to the effort, and the transition to independent practice depends heavily on the senior you train under.
- A law degree is a common route into CSS and corporate compliance, and many graduates never practise in court at all.
- Recognition of the institution matters here more than in unregulated fields, because it affects enrolment.

Intermediate in any stream2 years
No specific subject requirement, but a minimum percentage applies for LAT registration.

LAT
Required for the five-year LLB. It is qualifying as well as weighted — clearing the minimum is the first hurdle, merit decides placement after it.

LLB5 years
The five-year integrated programme is the standard route. Confirm that a college is recognised before enrolling.
- 04
Bar enrolment
Enrolment with a Provincial Bar Council, including pupillage and the Bar examination. Confirm current requirements with the Pakistan Bar Council.
Who regulates this
Pakistan Bar Council and the Provincial Bar Councils. Enrolment is required to appear in court. Requirements have changed in recent years — confirm the current pupillage and examination rules directly.
If you don't get in
Most students who aim at a competitive route do not get a place on the first attempt. These are the routes people actually take next.
- The three-year LLB after a bachelor’s degree remains available, and is a normal route rather than a lesser one.
- BS Political Science, International Relations and Public Administration feed into policy work and the competitive examinations.
- Paralegal and compliance roles inside firms and banks do not require enrolment.
